Head Chef and MD of Cresson Creative, Jennifer Laing, was invited onto the UK's most popular cookery show, ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’, as a ‘Quickie Bag of Food’ contestant. Chefs Richard Phillips and Garrey Dawson were put to the challenge when Jennifer asked them to create dishes using Alresford watercress, Loosehanger Old Sarum blue-cheese, new potatoes, walnuts, rhubarb and fresh ginger. Asked to vote on their favourite ideas, the audience voted for Richard Phillips’ suggestions of Watercress, Potato and Ginger Soup with a Poached Egg, Potato Salad with Watercress, Walnut and Cheese Mousse with Rhubard and Walnut Crumble for dessert.

After 10 minutes of frantic cooking from the chefs, Jennifer was asked to give her verdict on the recipes. As an expert with these ingredients through Cresson Creative’s own award-winning Watercress, Pear and Ginger Soup, Jennifer was impressed by what she tasted and was joined by fellow contestants snooker legends John Virgo and Willie Thorne to try the dishes!

Jennifer said: “It was fabulous to be invited onto such a popular and long-running cookery show and to be able to give the chefs a flavour of our local food here in Hampshire. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing what the chefs came up with using the kind of fresh, local and seasonal ingredients that we use ourselves at Cresson Creative. It was a great experience to be able to share ideas with other chefs and to meet Ainsley Harriott in person!”

The show was aired on Monday 7th April. To see the recipes used on the show, go to www.bbc.co.uk/food
